Biobased PET (Bio-PET)
Generally PET consists of 70% terephthalic acid and 30% of monoethylene glycol (MEG). It is now possible to produce bio-based MEG from renewable raw materials instead of using fossil resources. The basis for this bio-based MEG is ethanol manufactured from sugar cane rather than using ethanol produced from oil.
Eastlon PET is a ‘drop-in’ solution and is therefore able to replace conventional PET in a wide variety of applications. Typical applications are bottles, films, automotive and other injection moulding applications.
Eastlon has the following advantages:
- Can be recycled at up to 100% in the existing PET recycling streams
- Properties & processing are the same as fossil PET
- ‘Drop-in’ solution
- Not biodegradable and therefore durable
